You see, it was more like visiting a book cathedral than a library. So when I visited the Trinity’s Old Library, I knew I’d have to tell you about it. Perhaps, stemming from childhood visits to local public libraries and a scene from a childhood movie classic, there’s a thrill anytime I see row upon row of books – so many words crafted into adventures, histories, lessons and challenges all waiting to be devoured a page at a time – oh, I do love a good library. If you know anything about me, it’s probably that I adore books and libraries. Wilde was the chance to visit the school’s Old Library. The former school of Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett and Jonathan Swift, the university has a lot of literary history. Better still, I sat on a bench near one of the university greens and pretended to read my Kindle as I soaked in the lilting accents of students and professors passing by. Thinking that I can still pass for a college student, I used the fact to my benefit as I weaved in and out of the courtyards and main buildings. As Ireland’s oldest university (founded in 1592!) you can practically feel the pride and tradition echoing off the grey stoned buildings to mix with a thoroughly modern student body and pulse from its city central location. While in Dublin, I spent one morning at Trinity University.
